I miss my sister.
Its been 2 years since we saw each other.. but I think you have to look even longer ago as to when exactly we spent a good amount of quality time together. Even before I left for the States, I was stuck in the military for 2 plus years. During that period, I would say that my sister matured a lot; probably the transition from a girl to a woman? But in my eyes, she'd always be my little sister.
We have always been close... be it consoling each other from parents' scoldings (most of which we deserved) and from other setbacks in life, or simply providing support and care whenever it was most needed. I remember my mom used to tell me that when we were little, if I cried over something, my sister would start to cry along with me. How cute/sweet is that?
But like I said... its been 2 years since we saw each other. I had actually been really looking forward to seeing her at my graduation; so it was rather a disappointment that she couldn't make it. During this time we have kept in touch through phone calls... emails and such. Sometimes I'm buffeted by the constant fear that we would drift apart... which would be such a sad thing given our close relationship since young.
I'd admit; sometimes its easy to just take it that someone is there... without actually thinking of that someone. Thats how it was for me towards my sister over these few months; we occasionally chatted online but nothing more than that. Something struck me to call her this week... somehow I wanted to hear her voice. We had a really nice conversation... about mundane stuff directed towards various aspects of her life and mine. And it was after I said goodbye to her and put down the phone that it struck me.
